Comprehensive Breast Care
Dr. Juliann Reiland-Smith recognized a need in the Sioux Falls community - a need for a clinic that was 100% focused on breast health. To meet this need, in August of 2008 Dr. Reiland-Smith opened Comprehensive Breast Care, which provides the diagnostic services and long-term surgical care needed by people with abnormal mammogram results, high risk factors for breast cancer, and other breast health issues. In its first five months alone, the business grew to serve over 500 patients, and expanded its staffing from two full-time individuals to five. |

At Comprehensive Breast Care, the priority is to provide people with the information they need to make educated choices about their health care options. The caregivers take the time to discuss fully the results of tests, explain the pros and cons of different treatment options, and answer questions.
Dr. Juliann Reiland-Smith, MD
Dr. Julie Reiland-Smith has been working in the medical field for nearly 30 years! She started as a Registered Nurse, working in cancer care. While working as a nurse, she decided to pursue medical school, and moved to South Dakota in 1988 to begin the training. Upon completing the program, she moved to Omaha to complete a surgical residency at Creighton University. As Dr. Reiland-Smith pursued her medical studies, she realized that the skills in listening and patient teaching she had learned as a nurse would be very helpful in her work as a surgeon. Dr Reiland-Smith returned to Sioux Falls to begin her practice as a general surgeon. She joined what was then Surgical Associates at Sioux Valley hospital. Over the following 9 years, she developed a strong practice in caring for women with breast disease. While Dr. Reiland-Smith enjoyed the rewards of general surgery, taking out gallbladders and appendixes and caring for trauma patients, she began to appreciate how women with breast cancer and breast diseases had different needs and issues. Caring for these women brought rewards that were more meaningful to her and as her practice in the treatment of breast disease grew, she realized that she wanted to devote all her energy to this one specialty. In order to fully embrace a dedicated breast practice, Dr. Reiland-Smith went into independent practice and opened Comprehensive Breast Care. |

As a dedicated breast surgeon, Dr. Reiland-Smith has kept pace with state of the art technology and procedures specifically related to breast care. She attends several national meetings in the field each year, enabling her to bring the most current knowledge available into her work with women, evaluating and treating their breast disease.
- As of February 2009, Dr. Reiland-Smith is currently participating in a fellowship program which involves traveling to Dallas to observe new surgical techniques in the treatment of breast cancer.
- She is a member of the American Society Of Breast Disease and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
- Dr. Reiland-Smith is the only surgeon in the Sioux Falls area who participates in the Mastery of Breast Surgery program, designed to maintain the highest of surgical standards for breast surgeons in the country.
- Because of her status as an independent surgeon who works with both Avera and Sanford hospitals, her patients can choose to have their procedures performed at either hospital, whichever they prefer.
- Dr. Reiland-Smith is the only physician in Sioux Falls to attend the Breast Cancer Conferences that are held at both Avera and Sanford hospitals.

Jaclyn Small serves as our administrative specialist. She keeps very busy with processing insurance claims, scheduling surgery with the hospital you have selected, and filing your medical records. With her expertise, she resolves issues that arise with these areas, to simplify for you the administrative aspects of your care. |
