"I remember the day when I first received the chilling diagnosis – breast cancer, stage II. I was completely shocked; thinking how could it be true, I eat right, exercise, never had a serious medical problem… they cannot be right, it is somehow a mistake. It took me awhile to break through denial and feel like I’m in charge of my life again. Little did I know at the time, I was entering the most powerful journey of my life. The journey of self-discovery, repairing friendships, and learning how to trust others and be more humbled. I can truly say that without Dr. Reiland and her staff helping me along this life-changing experience it would not have been possible to go through it. She was the one who made the initial diagnosis, was incredibly patient and comprehensive in explaining about the nature of the disease, and literally and figuratively held my hand, first in the surgery room and then along the way of my progressing through the stages of treatment. I’m so grateful for having her as a surgeon and as a human being who walked this painful and at the same time very powerful road along by my side; comforting me, telling me what to expect ahead, and assuring me that everything is going to be all right. For anybody who is just entering this journey, I can assure you with a great confidence that you will be well taken care of by the magic hands, warm heart, innovative mind, and a bright spirit of Dr. Reiland! Thank you, Doc!" Respectfully submitted by a Breast Cancer Survivor, A. J.
"When I was told, I might have breast cancer in 2009, my family was so upset. My husband was diagnosed in 2008 with a rare cancer and was treated in Minneapolis. Our children and grandchildren were so afraid they might lose us both. My grandson Jakob, who was 9 at the time remembered that one of the teachers in his school had gone through breast cancer. He asked her who her doctor was, because he wanted his grandma to have the best care possible. When he got home from school that day he handed me a note written in his handwriting and said "this is where you go grandma, her name is Dr. Reiland." I called the office for an appointment, Cindy was so kind, and could tell I needed to see the doctor as soon as possible. I got in to see Dr. Reiland right away. She was great, so caring and calming, included some great hugs and plenty of time to talk to me. We made an appointment for a biopsy for the next week. Dr. Reiland went into her office on a holiday for my results. She called me and calmly told me I did have cancer. She said it was early and I would be okay. She was able to save my breast and I had 6 weeks of radiation, and I am cancer free now, but if I need more treatments, I know where I'm going for the best care possible." L. N.
